We recently tested the New Pro Trailer Backup Assist option in a new 2016 F150. The system requires some setup with trailer measurements and camera calibration input. But you are able to store this information and the measurements for additional trailers and simply select the correct trailer’s info based on which one you are pulling.
Once selected, the driver uses the assist knob and turns it in the direction you want to backup. It takes a little time to get the feel of the knob so you know how much to turn but the beauty is that you turn it in the direction you are going and there is no confusion/mix-ups like in traditionally reversing when you have to know the opposite tire angles to use.
You will be reversing hands free of the steering wheel but be in control of your brakes and speed. Using the system to backup straight is so simple because you don’t even adjust the knob.
Zarowny staff took the opportunity to try the system out on a gorgeous St. Paul afternoon, and the consensus was that the New Pro Trailer Backup Assist will save marriages!
