Staycation (a portmanteau of “stay” and “vacation”) is defined by Wikipedia as a period in which an individual or family stays home and participates in leisure activities within driving distance, sleeping in their own beds at night. Here in the Lakeland, there are many festivals, museums, beaches and parks that would make an ideal staycation destination for individuals or families.

Grandiose vacation plans abroad or to neighbouring USA and Mexico may be a stretch this year, given the Alberta economy and the low Canadian Dollar.  Getting into the local scene is a great budget-wise way to have fun and also support local organizations that typically rely on their summer programs and events as a fundraiser.

Visit Kalyna Country at http://www.kalynacountry.com for a detailed calendar of events going on in your backyard and enjoy your staycation.
